Tooled-Edge Onlays - 5 day workshop

The elegance of tooled-edge onlays gives a clean and crisp look to onlaid leather decoration, and its uses span from historical compositions to contemporary design bindings.  In this week-long intensive, students will learn how to tool and make thinly pared leather onlays, both plated and not, as well as relief-onlays.  We will be covering both shapes made up with straight and curved lines, as well as decorative tools, and will execute a design after making up a template.  A final plaquette is completed using the techniques covered.

This is an intermediate-level finishing workshop for those looking to add, or further existing knowledge, a beautiful technique to their repertoire.  Some finishing experience necessary with blind tooling and gold tooling, please inquire.
